This is my first piece for the College of Fellows Newsletter, and our intent was to feature the recently issued executive summary by the AIA Equity in Architecture Commission.
I reached out to Emily Grandstaff-Rice, who chaired the Commission, to discuss what this article could be. We came up with the idea to focus on the fellows’ voices themselves, as spokespersons for the work that the Commission has put forth. Each of the fellow’s personal insight was aimed at one of the 11 priority recommendations issued by them – this made for a piece that is quite honest in reflecting the meaning behind each recommendation. Moreover, it translates into a call to action, showcasing best practices that can be used to develop more equitable behaviors in the field.
