Defamiliarization

    Swarm Materiality
    Peter Edward Atwood

This image of a tea pot created using a swarming computation and a smaller element as the swarming agent is I feel directly in line with what Moeckel and Hoefler are talking about. However I have submitted this as a defamiliarization because the whole operation takes familiar objects and understands them in new ways. Here we see a strong example of how parametric design methods has the ability the engage both the familiar and the unfamiliar revealing qualities in each which can be further enhance or current understands of the world around us as well as challenge them.  I am very intrigued as well by Moeckel’s title for his project. Generative literal translation…with abstracted ideas”.
